Say What?

Let's look at some scripture about our minds and hearts, shall we? Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Prov. 4:23 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Phil. 4:8 ...consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, Heb. 10:24 What do these verses have in common? First, they are all imperative statements, meaning, they are commanding us to do something: watch, think, consider. Second, they tell us to focus on that which breathes life and goodness. Third, NONE of them emphasize a focus on the negativity of this world. These verses speak volumes about what our world needs right now; as Christians, we are commanded to speak truth and hope. I'm not talking about a "Pollyanna" outlook as if the world has no trouble; God knows it does! But here's what I mean. I have friends battling disease. Am I going to be a blessing to them if I bring up their disease every single time I speak with them? I have friends struggling with their marriage and/or kids. Am I going to be an encouragement to them if I constantly bring it up EVERY TIME we see each other? NO! There's more to them than their struggles, and there's more to this world than its problems. I am not minimizing those who have suffered this year. We've prayed and tried to help where we could. That said... I'm so sick and tired of being reminded about the hardships of 2020. I'm fatigued by the rhetoric which includes masks, social distancing, viruses, shut-downs, etc. STOP already! We all get it. It's not going away, so can we stop the redundant rhetoric and focus our hearts and minds on the good God has for us? The enemy wants us focused on the negative; stop appeasing him! I'm trying to remember the last time I had a conversation that did not involve any of the above mentioned words. How about you? I'm going to make a diligent effort to keep my heart and mind in a positive state. Join me!
