What is the difference between 2020 and 2021? The number 1. We are not going to wake up tomorrow morning to a changed world. Whatever is happening in the world today will still be there tomorrow.
However, that number 1 brought to mind a verse in Luke
chapter 10. Jesus was confronted by Martha,
who was quite bothered by her “lazy” sister, Mary. Jesus did not chastise Mary, nor did he take
away all of Martha’s concerns. Rather,
He simply replied, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many
things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part,
which shall not be taken away from her.”
2020 was definitely a year which brought clearer vision to
so much. 20/20 vision. It demonstrated
where fears lie, where hope is found, and where trust is placed. 2020 made clearer the evil in this world, and
the desperate need for hearts and minds to turn to God. It was a year where, like Martha, the world
was “worried and bothered about so many things,” that it either forgot, or did not
recognize, what was still true and good.
May the world deliberately embrace that “one
thing” that Jesus would not take away from Mary, Himself. Let us take captive our thoughts, be still
and know that He is God, and truly focus 2021 on that ONE thing.
